This Brown Shigaraki Set gives you everything you need to prepare rich and flavorful cups of Gyokuro and Sencha. It comes with a handmade teapot and 2 handmade tea cups. You will notice a slightly rougher, textured design on this Brown Shigaraki Set, as well as a reddish tinge which comes from the firing and oxidation. This technique is referred to as the Gyokko Yohen style, which produces a captivating "scorched" effect on the teapots. This imparts a touch of individuality to each piece and serves as a poignant reminder of the craftsmanship involved in creating the teapot as you prepare your tea.
How to use the Brown Shigaraki Set
It's easy to use the Brown Shigaraki Set; simply follow four basic steps. First, heat up the water, add the leaves to the teapot, pour in the water, and finally, let the tea brew before pouring it out.
Step 1
Use an electric kettle to bring the water up to the desired temperature. Different teas require slightly different temperatures, and you can find this information on our website.
Step 2
Add 5 grams of tea leaves into the brown shigaraki set. If you prefer, you can preheat the teapot before adding the leaves by pouring in some hot water, waiting 30 seconds, and then pouring it out.
Step 3
After adding the tea leaves to the brown shigaraki set, you can delicately pour in 150ml of water.
Step 4
Put the lid onto the white shigaraki set teapot and let the leaves brew for 1-2 minutes, depending on the type of tea. After the tea is done brewing, you can pour it out into the glasses of the white shigaraki set using the alternate pouring method.
Step 5
After infusing the leaves once, you can reuse them for 2-3 more rounds. Keep the water temperature and the water amount the same, but steep for only 20 seconds in each subsequent brewing.
Step 6
You can also use your brown Shigaraki set to cold brew green tea. All you need to do is add 5 grams of leaves to the teapot, fill it up with cool or room temperature water and let it brew for 1-3 hours. Once the time is up, you can pour it out and enjoy your refreshing cold brew green tea!
Crafted in Japan by adept artisans, the Brown Shigaraki Set undergoes a careful handcrafting process utilizing traditional sculpting and glazing techniques. Each tea set is meticulously crafted, and slight variations contribute to the individuality of each piece, making it a distinctive creation.
Made out of premium Japanese Shigaraki clay
Recognized as one of Japan's Six ancient kilns, Shigaraki is famed for crafting some of the finest pottery in the nation. In contrast to the smooth Tokoname clay, Shigaraki clay imparts a slightly rougher finish. The distinctiveness arises from Shigaraki's proximity to the lake bed of Lake Biwa, where the soil is sandier, contributing to the unique texture of this White Shigaraki Set.
Benefits of the Brown Shigaraki Set
The teapot in this Brown Shigaraki Set is specifically designed to produce rich, flavorful cups of gyokuro and sencha. It has a minimalist filter which works best for larger leaf teas and the wide base gives the leaves plenty of space to expand and release their flavor, even if you are working with a smaller water quantity. The handmade cups complete the set and allow you to enjoy a memorable tea moment with friends or family!
